We are looking for an ambitious Prep Cook/Line Cook to assist in the preparation of food items and ingredients in a small, intimate, independant family owned drive-in restaurant and food truck. You’ll perform routine kitchen tasks such as setting up workstations and ingredients so that food is readily accessible can be prepared according to recipes.
A great prep cook will be quick and diligent and willing to improve on the job. You will be deft and able to follow instructions as well as all health and safety rules in the kitchen. The ideal candidate will also be able to function in a fast-paced, busy environment as a part of a team. Will assist in cooking on the line as needed. Will be cross trained to assist in customer service and taking orders as needed.
Will work 25-30 hours weekly on average during the winter months, 35-40 hours during the season.
Prep/Line Cook Responsibilities Include:
*Create and follow a prep list.
*Labeling and stocking all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible and easy to determine the expiration date of the product.
*Measuring ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking
*Following recipes to create entrees, salads, desserts, sauces and gravies.
*Portioning products and ingredients used in cooking
*Maintain sanitation, health, and safety standards in work areas.
*Clean food preparation areas, facilities, or equipment.
*Verify that prepared food meets requirements for quality and quantity. Check quality of foods or supplies.
*Read food order slips or receive verbal instructions as to food required, and prepare and cook food according to instructions.
*Prepare cooking ingredients by washing, chopping vegetables, cutting meat etc.
*Undertake basic cooking duties such as reducing sauces, parboiling food etc.
*Prepare and portion simple dishes such as salads, entrees etc.
*Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, cleaning and sanitizing surfaces, taking out trash, sweeping, mopping, etc.
*Ensure all food and other items are dated, labelled and stored properly
*Comply with nutrition and sanitation guidelines
*Perform other kitchen duties as assigned
- Must be 18
- Proven experience as prep cook Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen
- Manual dexterity able to operate cutting tools and kitchen utensils
- A team player with good communication skills
- Patient with an ability to stay positive under pressure
- Very good physical condition and endurance to work on your feet for an entire work shift.
- High school diploma or equivalent is desirable; Training from a culinary school will be an asset.
